With the cost of living on the rise across Australia, finding an affordable but fast NBN plan that meets your home needs can be tough work. Luckily, you’ve come to the right place to find answers.

With that in mind, we’ve rounded up the best budget-friendly NBN plans in Australia. Whether you need unlimited data, fast speeds or a low-cost plan, there’s something here for everyone — and they all cost $60 a month or less.

Best NBN Plans Under $60

The first and most important step in choosing a plan is to find out what kind of NBN connection is available in your area. (You can find this out by searching your address via the NBN website.)

From there, choosing the right internet provider and getting into the nitty-gritty details of what you need versus what you won’t actually use are the next important steps. Here’s what you need to consider before signing up for any NBN plan.

NBN Connection Type

In most of Australia, there are five main fixed-line NBN connection types. These are Fibre to the Premises (FTTP), Fibre to the Curb (FTTC), Fibre to the Node (FTTN), Fibre to the Building (FTTB) and Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC). In regional and rural areas, there are two types of internet offered, which are Fixed Wireless NBN and Satellite NBN. Fibre to the Premises is the fastest connection, but Fibre to the Node is the most common.

Price

Every budget is different, but a good place to start is by considering what yours can stretch to each month and how your NBN plan can fit into that. Overspending for faster speeds or add-ons could force you to pinch pennies elsewhere, but slow speeds could also lead to further problems down the track.

Speed

NBN is generally considered to be consistently faster than broadband, but data requirements, budgets and your location will influence your speed.
