These Affordable Couches Don’t Skimp on Style Or Comfort

Products featured are independently and objectively selected by our editors. From time to time, things you buy through our links may earn us an affiliate commission.

One of the most important items in your home, a good couch can often feel like it costs the Earth. The truth is, though, there are plenty of brands making cheap couches these days that don’t underdeliver on style and comfort.

While spending more on a couch may mean you can buy the exact style of lounge, in the exact material and aesthetic you like, cheap couches aren’t void of style these days. Where once there was one kind of cheap couch offered by many large retailers, the rise of affordable furniture dealers has meant a competitive, cheap couch market — and plenty of stylish designs to choose from.

These are the cheap couches we are currently loving.

Freedom Columbian Fabric Sofa

Coming in at under $1000 for a 3-seater, this fabric sofa from Freedom ($799 for the 2-seater) is super affordable and still retains the quality you’d expect from one of Australia’s best furniture labels. Featuring solid timber legs, high armrests and foam-fibre filled cushions, the polyester cover is easily washable and durable, too.

Eva All Day Sofa

Eva has long been known for its All Day Sofa, but recently they launched the Everyday Sofa, which is our pick. The cushions are made from recycled memory foam and polyester fill, for ultimate comfort, while a sturdy hardwood frame will keep the sofa safe from wear and tear. Covers are washable, which gives you peace of mind if you have kids or a dog, and the sofa is designed to be flexibly configurated — turn it into a modular couch, or pick up the 2-Seater ($1,350) if you are working with a smaller space.

Castlery Madison 3-Seater Sofa

A stylish piece from Castlery, the Madison 3-Seater Sofa ($1,599), features a frame made from solid wood and plywood, plus rubber wood legs, and pocket spring suspension. The linen blend cover of the Bisque colourway looks great in minimalist lounge rooms and with the dark wood legs, works well in mid-century style spaces, too. If you really love a retro feel, go for the Antique Gold Velvet colourway. It will become a central style piece in your living room, hands down.

Nixon Sofa

Amart Furniture has a plethora of affordable couches on sale, but we love the Nixon sofa ($1,499) because it’s rare to find a four-seater sofa with a chaise coming in under $2,000. This is the perfect size for napping, and you can easily fit two people on, all stretched out, which is ideal. The hardwood timber frame is sturdy and will last years, plus the zig-zag spring construction helps prevent sagging.

Tacoma Sofa

Getting a leather couch at an affordable price is rare, but you can often find vegan leather couches for cheap, like this 3-Seater lounge by Rothbury Home ($1,349). The soft touch PU leather looks and feels similar to real leather, but is also easy to clean and a lot less expensive. The sofa features a wood frame and a high back for added comfort, plus high-density foam for support.
