Seas the Day in Sydney With These First-Class Summer Activities

Ahhh Sydney in summer; is there anywhere better to be? Well, we think not. And to make sure you have a first-class summer, we’ve rounded up seven must-do activities to beat the heat. From heading to the beach to lounging poolside, we’ve got your summer itinerary covered.

1. Let’s Go to the Beach

With over 100 beaches on offer, we’re really spoilt for choice when it comes to finding the perfect watering hole this summer. Not sure which beach is right for you? Why not make a bucket list of beaches and bays you’d like to visit over the holidays and work your way through them?

The eastern beaches like Bondi tend to get a lot of attention when it comes to Sydney beaches, but if you’re looking for a quieter stretch of sand, you can’t go past the following secret spots:

  • Whale Beach, Northern Beaches
  • Milk Beach, Vaucluse
  • Reef Beach, Balgowlah Heights
  • West Head Beach, Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park

2. Enjoy a Picnic in the Emerald City

Nicknamed the Emerald City for its abundant greenery, if you’d prefer to kick it on land rather than in the sea, Sydney’s many parks are waiting for you. Pack a delicious picnic and head to a local shady spot or visit one of the national parks on offer.

If an Instagram-able view is what you’re after, you can’t go past a visit to Bradfield Park, Cremorne Point Reserve and Barangaroo Reserve. If wide open spaces are more your vibe, Centennial Park and the Royal National Park in Sydney’s south are a must.

Looking for some inspiration for your picnic basket beyond chips and dip? Here are a few of our favourite additions:

3. Lounge Poolside With an Iced Coffee

If you’re looking for a way to skip the crowds and have a little R&R, lounging by the pool with a L’OR Iced Coffee in hand sounds mighty wonderful to us. The perfect solution to wanting a coffee but keeping cool in the heat. With three simple yet indulgent recipes on offer, Iced Latte, Caramel Iced Coffee, and Affogato Chocolate Shake, you’ll be living the good life in no time.

4. Get Some Culture Into You

How often do you say you’d love to visit one of the hundreds of museums but never get around to it? Well, here is the sign you need to get visiting. Whether it be art or dinosaurs, history or police, there’s a museum for all interests.

So, which museum to start at? The Art Gallery of NSW’s opening of the Sydney Modern Project expansion on 3 December 2022 is set to almost double exhibition space, including a permanent Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander gallery at the entrance level. Definitely worth checking out this summer.

5. Head to the Movies

Not only do you get to watch the latest blockbuster movie on the big screen, but you can also indulge in delicious snacks and enjoy so much-needed air-con. Standout films coming to a screen near you this summer include James Cameron’s much-anticipated Avatar: The Way of Water, The Whitney Houston homage I Wanna Dance With Somebody, and rom-com What’s Love Got to Do With It?

6. Surround Yourself With Water

Jump on the ferry and hop on over to Cockatoo Island for a camping experience like no other. Not only will you be able to relish the incredible views, but you’ll also be able to enjoy a delightful breeze off the water, too.

The campground has toilets and hot showers, including accessible facilities and with pricing ranging from $50 to $375 per night, there are options for all budgets and needs.

7. Head Under the Sea

Learning how to scuba dive is a bucket list item for many people, so why not escape the heat by taking a dive course? With many schools dotted up and down the coast, you can become a universally-recognised diver in a matter of days.

Diving schools like Abyss Scuba Diving, Prodive, and Dive Sydney are three great locations to get you swimming with the incredible flora and fauna Sydney’s waters have to offer.

Summer is all about heading outdoors and enjoying what Sydney has to offer and we hope these seven suggestions help you stay refreshed.
