Agatha Harkness of Marvel and Disney Plus’ hit series WandaVision is getting her own spinoff at the streamer.

Kathryn Hahn will reprise the role of Harkness in the series which is currently in development and described as a dark comedy, though exact plot details have not been disclosed.

Hahn’s arc as Agatha starts out in WandaVision in the role of Agnes, Wanda and Vision’s nosy neighbour. However, it is soon revealed that she is, in actuality, Agatha, a powerful witch.

In the Marvel comics and the series, Agatha is shown to have survived the Salem Witch Trials and is more than a match for Wanda, a.k.a. Scarlet Witch. In the finale of WandaVision, Agatha is reverted back to Agnes after being trapped by Wanda in Westview.

The Marvel/Disney series has proven to be a huge win for the studios, scoring a huge 23 Emmy nominations (including for Hahn for best-supporting actress in a limited series) and cleaning up at the MTV Movie and TV awards including best series and best performance in a TV show for lead actress Elizabeth Olsen.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has not confirmed if there will be a second season of WandaVision, offering a vague answer to the question at a panel interview earlier in 2021.

“Yes to an evolution of storyline; probably and inevitably in many different capacities,” he said.

“That’s the first place where that story will continue but there will be other places.”

Olsen, meanwhile, has said that there definitely would not be a second season of the critically acclaimed Disney+ series, telling Kaley Cuoco in a Variety interview that it was “definitely a limited series”.

She then elaborated with, “I mean, I’m saying that. I don’t know. I mean, with Marvel, you can never say no. People die…”

For Hahn’s part, if the Agatha spinoff gets the green light, it will make her a very busy woman.

The actress was recently confirmed as being attached to star in and executive produce a limited series about iconic late comedian Joan Rivers.

Titled The Comeback Girl, the series’ official synopsis reads: “Trailblazer. Adored. Cruel. Diva. Joan Rivers had a life like no other. At age 54, she was a superstar comedienne…and then it all fell apart. THE COMEBACK GIRL is the awe-inspiring untold story of how Joan Rivers persevered through near suicide and professional abyss to rebuild herself and her career to become a global icon.”

Hahn can also be seen in Apple TV’s The Shrink Next Door and Rian Johnson’s Knives Out 2.
