What Is Amazon Prime Day?

Amazon Prime Day is a roughly two-day sale, made slightly because of the US and UK time difference. The sale’s on at, yep, you guessed it, Amazon.

As is usually the case with these big online shopping events, most individual items on sale aren’t announced beforehand, so you’ll need to wait until the actual shopping day to see what’s on offer. In saying that, though, you can get a good idea of what’ll be discounted based on previous years.

When Is Amazon Prime Day 2023?

Amazon announced its Prime Day 2023 dates as Tuesday, July 11 and Wednesday, July 12. Last year, Amazon Prime Day was held on Tuesday, 12 July and ran until Wednesday, 13 July locally.

With the time difference between the US and UK, we’ll get deals until Thursday, July 13. This essentially gave us 65 hours of deals. The US and UK deals are also available on Amazon.com.au.

What Will Be on Sale During Amazon Prime Day?

In terms of tech, you’ll likely be able to save big on laptops, phones, headphones and gaming consoles. Wellness-wise, you’ll likely get discounts on beauty, hair care, dental care, vitamins, and workout accessories. Clothes-wise, you can shop for discounted coats, knitwear, lingerie, swimwear, and more. You can even save on your food shop by grabbing pantry food and drink from the online store at slashed prices.

Participating brands are likely to include Apple, Mattel, Bosch, Bose, Garmin, GHD, Instant Pot, Lego, Lenovo, North Face, Nintendo, Oculus, and Samsung, if last year’s sale is anything to go by.

Small and medium local businesses are also likely to feature items in the shopping event. Last year, this included Orbitkey (based in Melbourne), Nakie (based in Brisbane), and the Doggie Balm Co (based in regional Victoria).

What Are Some Hacks to Shopping the Deals?

Good question! Below are some of the more obvious hacks as well as sneaky ways you can score the most savings from Amazon Prime Day 2023.

Sign Up for Amazon Prime

For starters, to unlock the deals, you’ll need to sign up for Amazon Prime. You can do this on a 30-day free trial basis, provided you haven’t signed up before. Once you sign up, you’ll not only get access to the deals, but you’ll also get free delivery on local and international Prime-eligible items, as well as a subscription to Amazon Original series on Prime Video, which features hit shows like Jury Duty.

After the free trial, you can keep the subscription, paying month-by-month or for a flat year. You can also choose to cancel at any time.

Google Before You Buy

Before you buy anything, check the item’s price at other e-tailers. Just because it’s on sale on Amazon doesn’t mean it’s the lowest price offered online.

Buy from Big Brands

Keep an eye out for deals offered by big brands like Apple, Bose, and Samsung, as they’ll be some of the biggest value savings.

Check Amazon Warehouse

The ‘Amazon Warehouse’ section of the site has deals on pre-owned and open-boxed products. Each used product sold on it is thoroughly tested and its condition is outlined in detail on the site. Be sure to check it during Prime Day to see if any of its items’ prices are further slashed.

Create Personalised Deal Alerts

Got your eye on a particular item? Download the Amazon app and create deal alerts. Once Prime Day starts, you’ll receive push notifications about deals on your recently-reviewed items.

What Will Be on Sale?

Amazon Australia hasn’t yet confirmed what exactly will be on sale, but expect deals on tech, fashion, beauty, sport, gaming and homewares. We’ll be sure to update this page once the deals drop closer to the date.
