Yes, Henny! We Finally Know When ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under’ Is Starting

Ru Paul

The time has come, Aussie queens. RuPaul’s Drag Race Australia has a start date!

Premiering on Saturday, May 1 on Stan, the eight-part original will see the most fabulous and fierce local drag queens compete to be the first-ever Down Under Drag Race Superstar.

Hosted by RuPaul himself, and accompanied by fellow drag icon Michelle Visage with Australian comedian Rhys Nicholson, the 10 fierce Aussie and Kiwi queens competing to be Australia’s first-ever Drag Race Superstar are Anita Wigl’it (Auckland, NZ), Art Simone (Geelong, VIC), Coco Jumbo (Sydney, NSW), Elektra Shock (Auckland, NZ), Etcetera Etcetera (Sydney, NSW), JoJo Zaho (Newcastle, NSW), Karen from Finance (Melbourne, VIC), Kita Mean (Auckland, NZ), Maxi Shield (Sydney, NSW) and Scarlet Adams (Perth, WA).

And, as with every RuPaul season, there will be celebrity guest appearances with all to be ru-vealed soon.

Following the same format as the US and the UK, RuPaul’s Drag Race Australia will see Aussie queens serving high fashion realness with mini and max challenges, shady and heartfelt moments in the workroom, and of course, the all-important Lip Sync For Your Life battles. Can I get an Amen up in here?!

“I cannot wait for everyone to see that Down Under queens have some of the biggest charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talents in the world. Thank you to Stan and TVNZ for providing a platform for these outrageous drag artists to share their heart, soul and humour,” the Mother of all Drag Queens, RuPaul said in a statement.

The original Ru Paul’s Drag Race has seen incredible success in the US and has even garnered 34 Emmy nominations with the queen’s becoming household names.
