You Can Choose Your Own Adventure With this Interactive Website for ‘The Matrix 4’

The Matrix 4

We may not have an official trailer for The Matrix Resurrections yet but Warner Bros. has almost done one better by launching a new interactive website that gives fans the opportunity to interactively delve into the 22-year-old franchise like never before.

In an offering that will have conspiracy theorists squealing with glee, users are asked to choose between a blue pill to stay with the status quo and continue accepting the world you live in as reality and a red pill which signifies your willingness to start questioning everything and head down the rabbit hole.

Depending on which pill you choose, you’ll be taken to different snippets from the upcoming film. One choice will take you to scenes that revolve around Keanu Reeves’ Neo being back inside the Matrix and seeing a therapist (Neil Patrick Harris) when Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s character enters Neo’s world and prompts him to look a little closer at what he perceives his reality to be.

The other option will plunge you into a teaser where Harris’ therapist character warns viewers that they have “lost your capacity to discern reality from fiction” and urges the user to accept that reality is, in fact, just that and “anything else is just your mind playing tricks on you.”

Not only does a voiceover reference the exact time you engage in the experience (a very cool and trippy feature) but you also get treated to different footage from the movie each time you click on one of the pills.

In addition to returning stars Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss and Jada Pinkett Smith, famous faces such as Priyanka Chopra Jonas will also be appearing in the four instalments of the franchise.

Rounding out the cast are Christina Ricci along with Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jonathan Groff, Jessica Henwick, Telma Hopkins, Eréndira Ibarra, Toby Onwumere, Max Riemelt and Brian J. Smith.

Lambert Wilson and Monica Bellucci are also said to be returning to the Matrix universe. Writer and director Lana Wachowski once again served in those roles for the upcoming film.

The anticipated follow-up to the sci-fi action trilogy was originally slated for 2022, but Warner Bros. decided to move the premiere up to December 2021, thrilling fans of the first three films.

So far, no solid plot details have been released for the film, which was originally announced in 2019, however, Reeves did tell Digital Spy in 2020 that the movie has a “beautiful script that is a love story”, adding: “It’s another version of a kind of, call to wake up. It entertains… It has some great action. All will be revealed.”

We can’t wait.

Head to CHOOSE YOUR REALITY (whatisthematrix.com) to participate in the interactive experience.
