There could be a hundred pop stars in a room and next year, one of them will be Taylor Swift, who’s about to launch her Oscar campaign, according to a new report from The Hollywood Reporter.
Late last year, Swift released All Too Well: The Short Film, and is expected to be submitting it for consideration in the Best Live Action Short category for the 2023 Academy Awards. In fact, The Hollywood Reporter noted that Swift is already “working with a top consulting firm to guide its awards campaign”.
The short film was written and directed by Swift, and is based on the 10-minute version of “All Too Well”, the fan-favourite ballad released on Red (Taylor’s Version). The production stars Dylan O’Brien and Stranger Things’ Sadie Sink, and the song makes up for the bulk of the audio in the short film.

All Too Well: The Short Film screened at the Lincoln Square AMC theatre in New York City on November 12th, 2021, placing it well within the eligibility window for best live-action short, which opened on October 1st, 2021 and will close on September 30, 2022.
At the Lincoln Square screening, Swift credited her fans for making “All Too Well” the phenomenon it’s become over the years.
“The most important thing about this particular project is that this is a song that would not be a special song in every setlist I do, in every single list where someone says, ‘These are the best songs she’s done — that was all because of you,” Swift told fans at the screening.
“A record label didn’t pick this song as a single. We never made a video for it. This was a song that started out as a song on the album, just a simple track 5. And you went and turned it into what it is now. It started out as a song that was my favourite,” she continued. “It was about something very personal to me. It was hard to perform it live. Now, for me, honestly, this song is 100 percent about us, and for you.”
All Too Well: The Short Film may not be the only campaign Swift is running, though. Swift’s song “Carolina”, which is on the soundtrack for Where the Crawdads Sing, is also going to be eligible for Best Original Song, so Swift could potentially be running two separate campaigns as we head into the 2023 Oscar race.
Either nod would mark Swift’s first Academy Award nomination. Despite being nominated for three Golden Globes for Best Original Song in the past, the Academy has never nominated the singer-songwriter for her work.
