When Disney + announced that they were adding Star Wars to their repertoire, fans were more than excited that the franchise was at their streaming fingertips.
However, little did they realise, that more and more new content, like the addition of The Mandalorian, would keep on coming.
Earlier this week, it was revealed that producer Jon Favreau would be releasing a behind-the-scenes documentary look at Star Wars: The Mandalorian.
Now, a new series of the franchise is in the works and, according to Variety, is helmed by co-creator, showrunner, and executive producer of the critically-acclaimed Netflix show Russian Doll (starring Orange Is the New Black star Natasha Lyonne), Leslye Headland.
While details of the plot are still in a galaxy far, far away, Variety is reporting that it will be “female-centric” and takes place in a different part of the Star Wars timeline.
According to the outlet, Headland will write and serve as showrunner for the new series.
Disney + has been working hard to develop two more live-action Star Wars additions including an Obi-Wan Kenobi series starring Ewan McGregor (Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) and one centred on Cassian Andor/”Rogue One” prequel series starring Diego Luna.
For its current offering, The Mandalorian, a season two release date was announced for October 2020 and according to many reports, season three is already underway.
The Mandalorian was the first Star Wars series to launch on Disney +.
