More Stars Sign On to do “Solidarity Sessions: Together From Home”

Niall Horan

As the coronavirus pandemic sweeps the globe, more and more people are doing their bit to help flatten the curve and staying at home where possible.

And while sometimes we forget that celebrities are “people”, they too are being confined by the restrictions put in place by governments around the world.

Of course, one of the many industries which have been affected by the crisis is the entertainment industry and thousands of musicians are cancelling their gigs.

Global Citizen and the World Health Organisation (WHO) have launched a virtual concert series to promote unity amid the COVID-19 pandemic’s social distancing protocols.

Solidarity Sessions: Together at Home will feature live performances from various musical artists via Instagram.

To kick-off the initiative, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin took to his Live, performing some of the band’s greatest hits from his home studio.

John Legend was next to perform, with special guests Chrissy Teigen (in a towel and turban looking ultra-glam) and 3-year-old daughter Luna.

A schedule of upcoming LIVE appearances and performances announced so far are:

  1. Priyanka Chopra Jonas – Q&A with WHO – 6.30am AEDT Friday March 20
  2. Niall Horan – 7am AEDT Friday March 20
  3. Common – 8.30am AEDT Friday March 20

The campaign hopes to encourage and increase funding of the ‘Solidarity Response Fund’ announced overnight by the United Nations Foundation and the Swiss Philanthropy Foundation, together with WHO.

A string of international celebrities has already come on board to help raise awareness and show their support of the campaign including Billie Eilish and Charlie Puth.

The current health crisis is evolving rapidly. If you suspect you or a family member has coronavirus you should call (not visit) your GP or ring the national Coronavirus Health Information Hotline on 1800 020 080.
