The Latch has partnered with Prime Video to bring you the must-watch shows and movies of the year.
As far as action heroes go, few names incite as much adrenaline and excitement as that of Jack Reacher. For almost three decades, Reacher has been a pop culture icon synonymous with complete, unabashed, unapologetic butt-kicking. Now, Prime Video’s beloved series Reacher is finally back for a second season, and Alan Ritchson’s portrayal of the hero is finally back on our screens.
Last we saw of Reacher, he was hitching a ride into the unknown, leaving us with plenty of questions ahead of his return. Here are just some of the burning questions we need answered in Reacher’s second season, out now on Prime Video.
Who is Coming For Jack Reacher’s Old Colleagues?
In the trailer for the new season of Reacher, we learn that Reacher’s old colleagues in the military’s Special Investigations Unit are being targeted. In fact, some of them are being brutally tortured, or worse. The trailer shows us that Reacher, despite his self-proclaimed nomad status, still feels deep camaraderie with this unit. We literally see a flashback of this team cheers-ing over a fire, shouting “You do not mess with the special investigators!”
Now, in the face of this imminent threat, that shout feels more like a warning. But, who is coming for them? More importantly, why? And what threats are out there that are coming for Reacher specifically?
Will We Learn More About Reacher’s History?
Part of Jack Reacher’s appeal, both in-universe and to audiences, is that he’s enigmatic. We don’t need to know the ins and outs of how he learnt to be an iconic ass-kicker, we just know that he is. Season 1 of Reacher gave us little tidbits of his past — namely focusing on the relationship with his mother — but we haven’t got a full origin story as yet. However, we know that Season 2 will have him seeking vengeance against those who have come for his former unit, so does this also mean we’re going to learn more about the years that shaped him? Will we learn why Jack is the way he is?
And Will His Past Come Back to Haunt Him?
There comes a danger when exploring the past though, right? Hopefully, we get to learn more about the man behind the legend. But with that, we might also learn of the skeletons in his closet. Has he wronged anyone to get where he is today, and have they not forgiven him? In fact, could it be someone Reacher left in his past long ago who has returned to torment him and his ex-team by torturing them? Even in Season 1 alone, Reacher’s quest to solve the murders haunting the town of Margrave meant dealing with plenty of villains, sending the head honcho to a fiery grave. You can’t eradicate evil without making a few enemies, after all.
Where Will Reacher and Neagley’s Relationship Go From Here?
We know for a fact that Frances Neagley, Reacher’s counterpart of sorts played by Maria Sten, is making her grand return in Season 2. Being one of the only constant figures in Reacher’s nomadic lifestyle, we can expect her to help ground him, while also being, maybe, the only person he can really trust. Neagley famously has a phobia of being touched and, when we saw them say goodbye to each other at the end of Season 1, they spared the hugs and merely waved. But now she’s back, and since she was part of the same unit that is under threat, could we see Reacher and Neagley’s relationship develop even further? Will we learn more about her history too? Only time will tell.
Can We Trust His Teammates At All?
Reacher’s a drifter, and in the time he’s spent away from the Special Investigations Unit, he’s naturally become more independent. While we know he trusts Neagley, he’s about to reunite with people he hasn’t seen in some time. Specifically, we know he enlists the help of a forensic accountant, Karla Dixon, and a man who is described as a ‘switchblade-wielding family man’, David O’Donnell. As the team is targeted one by one, the number of allies Reacher can call drops. But what if the one they’re looking for has been with them the whole time? Season 1’s key villain was a presence, although not exactly an ally, through the entirety of Reacher’s time in Margrave, so can he really trust anyone?
Find out exactly who Reacher can, and can’t, trust in Season 2 of Reacher, out now on Prime Video. Start your 30-day free trial today.
