It’s time to take your meds because Netflix has just released the official trailer for Ratched, a new thriller series from American Horror Story creator, Ryan Murphy.
The TV show, which already has a second season order, is set to premiere on September 18 and stars Sarah Paulson (American Horror Story) in the titular role of Nurse Mildred Ratched.
You may have heard of this character before as she is a lead in Ken Kesey’s novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, which reached the height of its fame in 1975 with a film of the same name starring Louise Fletcher.
Set in 1947, the new trailer introduces us to the fierce, yet poised Nurse Ratched who moves to Northern California for a job at a leading psychiatric hospital.
“You have been subjected to enough pain, but you deserve someone to show you mercy. How different I would be if someone had,” she tells a patient. Goosebump inducing stuff.
Netflix has ordered 18 episodes which will take place over two seasons and will follow Nurse Ratched as she turns from a caring nurse to, well, a monster.
In the original novel, the infamous nurse conducts experiments on the patients, revealing that true monsters are made, not born.
The series is produced by the team behind Hollywood, Glee and The Politician and also boasts an all-star cast including Australian actor Judy Davis (Mystery Road), Cynthia Nixon (Sex and the City), Sharon Stone (Basic Instinct), Jon Jon Briones (American Horror Story), Finn Wittrock (Judy), Charlie Carver (Desperate Housewives), Alice Englert (Beautiful Creatures), Amanda Plummer (Spiral Farm), Corey Stoll (Billions), Sophie Okonedo (Flack), Brandon Flynn (13 Reasons Why) and Vincent D’Onofrio (Godfather of Harlem).
Ratched premiere’s on Netflix, September 18 in the US, with an Australian date to be confirmed.
