Powderfinger Announce Reunion With One Night Lonely Charity Concert

Powderfinger

In 2010, iconic Australian band Powderfinger played their final ever live show.

In a statement, the group confirmed that with the completion of their last album, Golden Rule, they felt that they had said all that they could “as a musical group.”

“We firmly believe that it is our most complete and satisfying album and can’t think of a better way to farewell our fans than with music that we all believe in and also with, hopefully, our best tour to date.”

The Aussie rock group are reuniting once again, for a One Night Lonely concert to be streamed on their YouTube channel on May 23.

The live-streamed concert will raise money and awareness for mental health charity Beyond Blue and music industry charity Support Act and will be “an exclusive performance from their respective home studios”.

The name, which takes a beat from “one night only”, also points towards the very important charities that they are supporting for the night.

“The five of us have been meeting regularly over the past few months to organise some Odyssey Number Five anniversary releases,” the band announced in a statement.

“The idea came up of playing together again in this unusual format which we all thought would be fun.”

In an interview with the ABC, Fanning said that they were hoping to “put a smile on people’s faces” and would be performing some of their greatest hits for the show.

“We tossed up the idea of doing something rare or something that people haven’t heard, but we decided that it was better for people to just hear songs that they love,” he said.

“Besides that, rehearsing songs that we’ve never played before by Zoom is not going to be ideal.”

During their heyday, Powderfinger won 18 ARIA awards and released five number-one albums.
