Travel to Bali’s back, baby. In a big way. New data from online travel booking platform Webjet.com.au found that flights to Denpasar made up 34.7% of bookings among all the Asian destinations listed on its platform.
If you’re one of the many currently planning a trip to the Indonesian island, you might be curious about where’s new to stay when you’re there. The pandemic did nothing to slow down the rate of new builds in Bali, with a dizzying amount of hotels, villas, resorts and guesthouses opening since we’ve been away.
From Palm Springs-inspired villas (on a budget!), to a brand new iteration from much-loved hotel brand Ovolo, when it comes to fresh new spaces to stay in Bali, you’ll be spoilt for choice. Ahead are a few of our favourites.

The Wakanda Resort, Ubud
If your primary purpose for a Bali holiday is to unwind, consider The Wakanda. The property is located in Ubud, the rice-paddy-and-yoga-studio-dense area of the island. Dine at the onsite restaurant, book in a treatment at its spa, or simply curl up with a book on the terrace balcony of your room. A beautiful waterfall, called Sumampan waterfall, can also be explored nearby.
Mamaka By Ovolo, Kuta Beach
Mamaka By Ovolo opened mid-pandemic, in 2021. It’s right on Kuta Beach and a short stroll from Kuta Square, Beachwalk Mall, and Discovery Shopping Mall. The property’s equipped with an outdoor pool, a gym, and a wide selection of room types, from a standard double room to the Top Gun room, a two bedroom suite that sleeps four guests.
Adiwana Suweta, Ubud
Located in Ubud, Adiwana Suweta faces lush green jungle and towering tropical trees. The resort prides itself on offering its guests the opportunity to improve their well-being in a motivating atmosphere. Facilities include an infinity pool with pool bar, a spa, and a sky pavilion that hosts yoga.
The Cali Villas, Canggu
Palm Springs-styled The Cali Villas opened at the start of 2022 in trendy Canggu. The accommodation is all soft pastels, white stucco walls, and white stone walkways, punctuated by cacti. Each of the villas have names like Sierra, Luna, or Maya, and come with a fully-equipped kitchen to use when you’ve had enough of dining out.
Terra Cottages, Uluwatu
Open since July 2022, Terra Cottages can be found in Uluwatu, in the south part of the island. The 21-room property is steps from Cemongkak Beach, 200m from Bingin Beach, and 700m from Dreamland Beach. Relax in its outdoor pool or shared garden, or rent a push bike and go for a ride around the area.
Lost Lindenberg, Pekutatan
Lost Lindenberg, in the west of the island in Pekutatan, consists of eight treehouse rooms in the jungle with a black sand beach just beyond. Spend your time here, surfing at the beach, swimming in the property’s pool, or relaxing at its spa. When you’ve worked up an appetite, tuck into a delicious meal at its restaurant that serves a vegan approach to Balinese home cooking.
La Reserve 1785
Opened in March 2022, La Reserve 1785 in Canggu is dedicated to preserving the legacy of famed French love priestess and antique collector, Mademoiselle Henriette Reboul who acquired the property in 1936. Today, it offers 13 suites, some with balconies, others with private pools.
Andaz Bali, Sanur
Beachfront property Andaz Bali is conveniently located in Sanur where many of the boat trips to Bali’s neighbouring islands leave from. The resort was modelled after a modern Balinese village and was carefully built around existing mature landscape. Alongside its 127 rooms and suites, 18 garden villas and four beach villas, it also has a pool, spa, fitness centre, and restaurant.
Kalia Bingin, Uluwatu
Keen for an adults-only (no noisy kids allowed) stay? Book Kalia Bingin. Opened in July 2022, the hotel has affordable, basic guest rooms. It is situated just 1.2km from Cemongkak Beach, 1.5km from Impossible Beach, and 6.5km from Uluwatu Temple.
Kimpton Naranta, Nusa Dua
Nestled in a hillside estate, Kimpton Naranta features 50 villas, most with a private saltwater plunge pool. All have stress-melting views of Maj Valley, Mount Agung, or the Indian Ocean. The resort hosts an evening social hour and has an artiste studio and library guests can visit. It also has push bikes and e-scooters they can make use of.
