These Pet-Friendly Glamping Tents Will Change the Mudgee Accommodation Game

If you’re anything like me, sometimes you need to escape the constant hustle and bustle of city life. Mudgee, a 3.5-hour drive from Sydney where I live, has become my new favourite spot for a peaceful weekend retreat. Recently, my partner and I spent a romantic weekend at one of the newest attractions in the area: eco-friendly glamping tents.

Located at the Parklands Resort Mudgee, these 15 eco tents perfectly blend rustic charm with modern comfort. As soon as we arrived, I was struck by the beauty of the canvas tents, which meant no camping gear or setup hassle for us. Inside, we found a cosy four-poster king-size bed, a private ensuite, and a selection of local gourmet treats. Each morning, our breakfast was delivered to our door, so we could enjoy it on our private outdoor deck while taking in the stunning views of greenery and rising sun.

A Perfect Blend of Nature and Luxury

The tents are thoughtfully positioned to ensure privacy, making them ideal for couples. They’re also pet-friendly, which is uncommon for glamping. The surrounding 30-acre property offered plenty of opportunities for strolls, picnics and even encounters with free-roaming cows and kangaroos. For those who like to stay active, the resort also offers a private tennis court, an indoor pool, a fitness centre, and a heated spa.

An Eco-Friendly Approach

One of the things that impressed us was the retreat’s commitment to sustainability. The eco tents utilise the Eco Anchor foundation system and Eco Decking flooring, crafted from recycled rice husk composite material, offering superb thermal insulation and minimal environmental impact. The energy-efficient design ensures the tents can efficiently heat or cool, thus reducing their carbon footprint.

“Having a minimal thermal eco-footprint on this beautiful piece of land was very important to us,” Shaun Ormbsy, Head of Commercial at Elanor Hotels said. “The retreats are designed to be energy efficient and can be heated or cooled sustainably, due to the smart canvas construction holding the ambient air, minimising power consumption.”

“After seeing an increase in demand for sustainable and immersive travel experiences, we developed Mudgee Retreats at Parklands Resort Mudgee as an alternative option for travellers looking for an authentic glamping experience in the heart of Mudgee.”

Exploring Mudgee

One of the best parts about staying at Mudgee Retreats was how central it was to everything in Mudgee. After enjoying a breakfast of muesli, yoghurt, pastries, and fruit, we decided to explore the town. We started our day with a coffee at Alby & Esther’s Cafe, then headed to the markets in town.

We lucked out by visiting on the third Saturday of the month when the farmers’ markets were in full swing. It was a treasure trove of goodies, from mouthwatering chutneys to flavourful olive oils and tangy balsamic vinegars. And let’s not forget the artisanal gin and wine!

These markets aren’t just places to shop; they’re lively community hubs where we felt instantly connected to the neighbourhood. With different markets happening every Saturday, this one was about local farmers proudly showing off their best stuff.

You Must Visit Lowe Wines

You can’t go to Mudgee and not have dinner at The Zin House at Lowe Wines. This celebrated regional restaurant earns its reputation for its farm-to-table cuisine, serene interiors, and exceptional service. The five-course meal, paired with exquisite wines, was an unforgettable experience. The menu kicked off with fresh ingredients from their garden, paired with local produce from their neighbours. Each course was thoughtfully prepared, showcasing the vibrant flavours and seasonal bounty of the region. It was a delightful dining experience that truly celebrated community and sustainability.

Although not wine enthusiasts, we found it fascinating to learn about the different types of wines and their ideal pairings. We also had a special wine-tasting journey at the Lowe Cellar Door, renowned for its organic and biodynamic wines. It was interesting to explore their unique small-batch wines. Our personal favourite was Roger, a certified organic and biodynamic sparkling Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz blend.

On-Site Dining

If you prefer dining closer to your accommodation, the Vine Restaurant & Bar at the resort offers a convenient and delicious option. One evening, after a day of exploring, we decided to have dinner there. The friendly and accommodating staff made sure we had a pleasant dining experience. I enjoyed a delightful chicken breast in a creamy sauce with mash and potato gratin, while my partner devoured a succulent rump steak with green beans and onion rings.

On our final morning, we opted for the buffet breakfast at the Vine Restaurant. The spread included everything from scrambled eggs, hash browns and pastries to fresh fruit and yoghurt, providing a perfect end to our stay.

Verdict?

Our stay at the Mudgee Retreats was a perfect blend of luxury, nature, and sustainability. Whether you’re a couple seeking a romantic escape or a solo traveller looking to explore the culinary and natural delights of the Mudgee region, these eco tents offer a unique and memorable glamping experience.
