Can you hear that? That’s the sound of us cackling maniacally, because Disney just dropped the very first teaser trailer for Hocus Pocus 2. The good news? It’s coming, it’s happening, it’s going to be iconic. The bad news? We still have to wait, like, a year. Hate that for us!
“The black flame candle is alight to the Sanderson sisters’ delight,” the tweet says, adding: “Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, & Kathy Najimy shall soon return. Joined by new faces which you soon will learn.”
So, does the teaser tell us anything? No. Are we still completely hyped? Yes!
Hocus Pocus is an absolute millennial classique and, to quote another millennial classique, it’s been 84 years.
Okay, maybe it’s only been 28 years, but that’s still a long time to wait for a sequel!
Disney first announced its plans to reunite the Sanderson sisters back in 2019, and confirmed the full cast over the weekend.
Joining Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy is an absolutely star-studded cast.
Ted Lasso‘s Hannah Waddingham and Veep alum Tony Hale will be joining the cast, along with Whitney Peak, Lilia Buckingham, Belissa Escobedo, Juju Brener, Froy Guiterrez, Taylor Henderson, Sam Richardson and Nina Kitchen. Doug Jones will also be returning from the original film.
According to the movie’s official logline: “In Hocus Pocus 2, three young women accidentally bring the Sanderson Sisters back to modern-day Salem and must figure out how to stop the child-hungry witches from wreaking a new kind of havoc on the world.”
The sequel will be directed by Anne Fletcher, who said in a press statement, “Now more than ever, people need to laugh. We should be laughing every day, and there’s so much fun to be had with these three unbelievable women playing delicious characters from such a beloved film.
“I am so grateful to be able to play a part in bringing these witches back to life, and to be working with my friends at Disney again makes it all the more special. This is a movie for everyone, from the fans who grew up with the first film to the next generation of viewers, and I can’t wait to get started.”
Hocus Pocus 2 reportedly began filming last week in Providence, Rhode Island, and is expected to premiere in Australia on Disney+ around Spring 2022.
