This year, Mother’s Day falls on Sunday, May 12, meaning that if you’re only realising it’s coming up now, you still have time to book lunch.
Sharing a meal on the day with the ‘mum’ in your life, whether that’s your actual mum, your grandmother or even a family friend or other family member, not only shows them how much you appreciate them but also helps you both create new memories together.
Fortunately, if you’re in Sydney, when it comes to Mother’s Day lunch venues, you’re spoilt for choice. From beachfront restaurants that serve a side of sea view, to sky-high restaurants that let you look out over our beautiful city, ahead are our favourite spots to celebrate the motherly figure in your life among the many venues and menus.
North Bondi Fish, North Bondi
A special set Mother’s Day menu at North Bondi Fish, set at the end of Bondi below North Bondi RSL, comes with a side of direct sea views, not to mention colourful, photo-ready interiors and a DJ from 2-5pm and live music from 5:30-8:30pm. For $89pp and $30 for kids aged 12 and under, you’ll be treated to a menu of grilled barramundi, swimmer crab linguine and apple tarte tatin.
St Siandra, Mosman
Set on a strip of private beach in Mosman, St Siandra only opened earlier this year. Its Mediterranean Coast-themed interiors – think yellow walls, striped chair cushions and olive trees – match its seafood and pasta-heavy menu. On Mother’s Day, the venue is running a $169pp, four-course menu, featuring favourites like potato flatbread and mussels, along with specially-created dishes, including a Messina chocolate tart.
Nour, Surry Hills
Nour is known for its brunch, and its Mother’s Day lunch ($119pp)  takes that up a notch, with smoked mussels, shish barak and glazed lamb shoulder on the set menu. Lunch runs 12-3:15pm, while dinner with the same menu can be booked 5-8:30pm.
Altitude at the Shangri-La, The Rocks
For dinner with a side of Sydney skyline views, book into Altitude on level 36 of the Shangri-La Hotel. The restaurant will put on a Mother’s Day dinner on Saturday, May 11 between 5:30pm and 10pm and Sunday, May 12 between 6pm and 10pm. It’s priced at $247pp and includes Hiramasa tuna sashimi with heirloom beetroot and tagliolini with Mooloolaba pipis accompanied by Dashi emulsion and Shio Kombu.
AALIA, Martin Place
Another restaurant holding a special Mother’s Day lunch in the city is AALIA, located in Martin Place. There, your family can tuck into a Mother’s Day Middle Eastern feast ordered a la carte or part of sharing banquet menu by Executive Chef Paul Farag. Expect hand-stretched haloumi, lamb neck shawarma and, for dessert, Medjool dates with caramelised chocolate. Every mum gets a complimentary Mumm Champagne (375ml).
Woodcut at Crown Sydney, Barangaroo
‘Beautiful ingredients, simply cooked’ is the ethos of Woodcut. The restaurant at Crown Sydney has a special Mother’s Day a la carte menu on the day, with caviar, salt-baked celeriac and clay pot-baked spiced lamb shoulder on offer. Help Mum make a day of it by getting her a treatment at Crown Spa post-lunch.
Bar Lucia, Potts Point
The decor at Bar Lucia was inspired by the elegant architecture in Madrid, complete with nature-inspired motifs. The venue is celebrating Mother’s Day with a set menu that includes a glass of Veuve Clicquot. Highlights include oysters with alta allela cava mignonette, barbecued octopus and wagyu steak.
Sonora, Potts Point
Inspired by the restaurant scene in Mexico City’s trendy neighbourhoods, Roma and Condesa, Sonora is a high-end Mexican restaurant and mezcal bar. Its Mother’s Day lunch and dinner offering is a la carte, with dishes including yellowfin tuna ceviche, queso fundido and Tasmanian octopus zarandeado.
Sailmaker Restaurant at Hyatt Regency, Darling Harbour
If the mum in your life is a fan of seafood, take her to Sailmaker’s Signature Seafood Table Mother’s Day Lunch at Hyatt Regency in Darling Harbour. There, for $159pp and $79 for kids, she can help herself to a seafood bar filled with the finest produce from Sydney Seafood Market. You’ll also get salads, sides and antipasto, as well as shared-style seasonal mains and indulgent desserts. The venue is also running a Mother’s Day Seafood Buffet Dinner, as well as a Mother’s Day Gin High Tea on Saturday and Sunday.
