Maldives Resort Offers Year-Long Stay Cheaper Than Your Sydney Rental

One of the Maldives’ most luxurious island resorts has launched a year-long travel package designed to entice long-term guests to trade in their city lifestyles for 365 days in an opulent overwater bungalow.

The ‘Unlimited Stays in Paradise’ deal comes courtesy of Anantara Veli Maldives Resort and is an adults-only retreat that occupies its own private island. It’s paradise on earth, with white sand beaches, lush forests, and crystal clear waters brimming with marine life.

Like many tropical holiday destinations, the resort relies heavily on tourism, and the Maldives is a popular spot among honeymooners and romantics looking to treat themselves with a luxurious escape.

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, and thanks to travel restrictions around the world, the island country has seen few travellers in 2020, hence the offer of a lifetime that allows guests to spend a whole year in the resort.

The guaranteed occupancy ensures money and jobs for those who work there, while travellers who are able to ‘work from home’ can do just that – only while wading in the pristine waters or sipping on cocktails by the pool. It’s a pretty sweet deal, and it’s surprisingly do-able from a financial perspective.

For $41,262 ($30,000 USD), you and a friend or lover can spend an entire year on the island, from January 1, 2021, to December 23, 2021.

In that cost, breakfast is included daily for both guests, shared return transfers between Anantara Veli and Malé can be arranged as often as required, and a 25% saving applies to all dining and spa services during the stay.

Of course, guests can enjoy the resort’s nine restaurants and bars, plus enjoy the facilities like the cinema and make the most of watersports like surfing, snorkelling and diving during the entire year. And, you don’t even have to stay the whole time — you can come and go as you like.

“Return to your Maldivian Overwater Bungalow as often as you please and soak up the turquoise lagoon, magical sunsets and the tropical beauty. Laze on your sun deck as colourful fish swim in the crystal-clear waters below. Elevate working from home to a new level,” the package detail reads.

“The exclusive ‘Unlimited Stays’ offer at Anantara Veli opens the door to complete flexibility so you and your loved one can come and go from a Maldivian paradise whenever the desire takes you.”

At around $20,500 each, it’s actually kind of affordable, especially if you’re working your regular job at the same time, though one big barrier we see is the fact that the entire cost of the stay is required up-front before arriving on the island.

As Dmarge points out, the cost (when broken down into weekly instalments), is comparable to Sydney and Melbourne’s rental prices.

If a tenant is paying $791.33 per week, they would end up paying $41,262 a year, which is the cost of spending a year on the Maldives resort. Between two, that’s $395.66 each per week. See? It’s doable!

Those seriously humouring the idea of taking the resort up on this once-in-a-lifetime offer better not hesitate. The offer expires on November 30.
