In the most epic of Australian diva news, Kylie Minogue has confirmed that a musical based on her hit songs is still “definitely happening”.
According to Music Talkers, the project has been in the works for a while, however, has been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The outlet also said that William Baker, Minogue’s long-time collaborator and stylist (those gold hot pants) will also be working on the show.
While there’s no word on a storyline, Minogue’s infamous repertoire will feature heavily and we’re hoping it will include The Loco-motion, Better the Devil You Know, I Should Be So Lucky, Step Back In Time and Spinning Around.
Minogue released her latest studio album Disco in 2020, after finishing the recording home in London.
“I think a lot of my songs and a lot of the songs on Disco are about togetherness, and that dream of good times, acknowledging they’re not all great times,” Minogue said in an interview with ELLE upon the release.
The 52-year-old’s last gig before the pandemic was March 6 in São Paolo and then she hit the studio.
“I was going all day, every day, and then lockdown happened. I thought, ‘how can we keep doing this?'”
The Aussie pop princess, who began her career in 1988 with I Should Be So Lucky, said that people are “receptive” to pop music “at the moment”.
“I think we’re appreciating the day, whether it’s a beautiful, sunny day or in London today, the weather has just turned. I can’t speak for everybody, but it seems that collectively if I can generalise, we’re grateful for much smaller things that we would have taken for granted before,” she told the outlet.
Disco is the singer’s fifteenth studio album behind Kylie (1988), Enjoy Yourself (1999), Impossible Princess (1997), Body Language (2003) and Golden (2018) to name a few.
Throughout her career, she has also starred in 21 films and 29 television shows, including her infamous role as Charlene on Neighbours.
