Muchas gracias Jennifer Lopez and Shakira! Muchas gracias!
We may not all be across the NFL in Australia, but if there’s one thing we can look forward to each year, it is the Super Bowl halftime show.
And this year, with the football league’s return to South Florida for the first time in a decade, it was only fitting that Lopez and Shakira were there to shake up the halftime show with a Latino inspired fiesta. And it was FIRE.
Starting the show off, Shakira led an entourage of red sparkly dancers to She Wolf followed by Whenever Wherever — the song that launched her career.
But it wouldn’t be Shakira without some insane hip moves (to Hips Lie Don’t Lie, no less) and a casual crowd surfing moment where she throws herself into the screaming audience.
Backed by fireworks and some seriously impeccable dance moves — Shakira proved that she still very much got it.
After a very brief performance (because hello, J.Lo), a pole rises from the incredible background and on it, Jennifer Lopez.
The entrance we didn’t know we needed.
J.Lo’s performance included some of her biggest hits with Jenny From The Block and Ain’t It Funny to Get it Right. All while twirling and spinning and hanging off a pole — and let’s not forget, the woman is 50 years old now. Where does she find her energy?
Lopez also performed Waiting for Tonight, Love Don’t Cost a Thing and then On The Floor, before being joined by her 11-year-old daughter Emme (who clearly got both Lopez and former husband, Marc Anthony’s singing chops) to sing Let’s Get Loud.
From the sparkly and insane costume changes, pole dancing, fireworks and a group of talented kids hitting the stage it was a Vegas cabaret-style fever dream and by far the best halftime show we’ve seen in years.
Bow down to the OG Queens of Latin music – JLo and Shakira.
