Want Better Heart Health? You Now Have Permission to Eat More Cheese

With one in six Australians being affected by cardiovascular disease, your heart’s health is something to be aware of. Yes, we know it’s a very dry subject, but it’s an important one to consider in your overall health plan.

In some deliciously good news, a research study by the American Heart Association has discovered that eating Grana Padano cheese can help you to lower your blood pressure. Did someone say cheese board?

High blood pressure begins when the force of your blood pushing against your artery walls is too high for a sustained period. It puts pressure on your heart because it has to work harder to pump your blood around your body, eventually leading to thickened artery walls which puts even more pressure on your heart.

Luckily there are ways you can try to lower this pressure before you resort to medication. Exercise is a big one, the stronger your cardio health the better. Diet is also just as important with certain foods offering pressure lowering qualities.

The research shows that Grana Padano — similar to parmesan cheese contains certain peptides which give it its blood pressure-lowering abilities. The peptides are made up of short-chain amino acids which help to prevent the build-up of enzymes which cause blood vessels to constrict leading to higher blood pressure.

So next time you’re looking for a way to jazz up a boring salad, add a few shavings of Grana Padano on top for a healthy heart and happy taste buds.
