The New IKEA x Byredo Collab Has Landed In Stores

IKEA knows building a comforting and cosy home extends beyond furniture and decor, which is why its teamed up with luxury fragrance house, Byredo, for a home fragrance collaboration designed to awaken the senses.

Byredo founder, Ben Gorham, worked alongside IKEA’s team to develop 13 affordable and luxurious scented candles in the Osynlig collection.

The collaboration explores what IKEA calls ‘invisible design’ — a concept that goes beyond the mere aesthetic of a home to reach into sensory areas like smell, to trigger certain feelings and scent memories that can ultimately have an effect on our moods and emotions.

According to the recent IKEA Life at Home report, homemakers form a strong connection between how they perceive smell and their feeling of ‘home’. They found scents are powerful tools for creating invisible design and enhancing our lives at home.

This finding inspired the collaboration, which ultimately resulted in the 13 new scents from Byredo.

“Smell is a very relevant part of the home, and it creates a sense of comfort and security,” Byredo founder Ben Gorham says. “We’re trying to develop a ton of smells enforcing the idea that everyone has a different relationship to it, and nothing is right or wrong.”

To help shoppers find their perfect home fragrance, the 13 scented candles are divided into three categories via the base note: floral, woody and fresh.

A range of various sizes means the candles won’t break the bank either — the smallest sizes will start at $9.99, with the larger-sized candles climbing to $49. Even at their most expensive, the candles are still less than half the price of other Byredo candles on the market.

“We’re excited to be able to collaborate with the founder of such an exclusive fragrance house and together develop a collection that has a scent for everyone and at such a low price.

“Smell is the layer that completes the home and allows you to create an emotive environment that you feel connected to”, says Birgitta Elmgren Cruden, business leader for home decoration and outdoor at IKEA.

The Osynlig collection has landed in Australian stores. We’re told they’re flying off the shelves, so you better get in quick!
