The MTV Video Music Awards — aka the VMAs — are just around the corner, and we couldn’t be more excited.
Historically, the VMAs have been one of the wildest nights for pop culture. From Britney Spears dancing with a live python in 2001, to Lady Gaga‘s meat dress, to that Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke performance in 2013, the VMAs is responsible for dozens of cultural touchstones, with 2022 all-but-guaranteed to carry on the legacy.
Performing on the night will be K-Pop sensation Blackpink, fresh off the announcement of their upcoming world tour. The VMAs will be their debut US performance of their latest single “Pink Venom”.
Also performing are Jack Harlow, Lizzo and Måneskin, Anitta, J Balvin, Marshmello x Khalid and Panic! at the Disco. Lizzo will be performing “2 Be Loved”, from her album Special, and Måneskin will be performing their latest single, “Supermodel.”
Leading this year’s nominations are Jack Harlow, Kendrick Lamar and Lil Nas X, who each have seven nods. Following them are Doja Cat and Harry Styles with six a piece, and Billie Eilish, Drake, Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift and the Weeknd all scored five nods each.
