The time is drawing ever closer when we will be graced with one of the year’s most talked-about films.
House of Gucci will be in Aussie cinemas from December and the latest trailer for the Lady Gaga and Adam Driver led drama has us more excited than ever to see how the story of the iconic fashion family comes to life on the big screen.
The film, which was directed by the acclaimed Ridley Scott, is inspired by the true story of Patrizia Reggiani, the woman who would have her husband Maurizio killed to ascend to the throne of high fashion in the Gucci family.
The story takes place over three decades and explores the themes of love, betrayal, decadence, revenge, and murder while examining what a name means, what it’s worth, and how far a family will go for control.
As you would no doubt imagine, given this is a movie about one of the most influential fashion houses in history, the levels of glamour in House of Gucci are out of this world with costume designer Janty Yates and her team being granted unlimited access to Gucci’s vintage archives to create the film. This enabled them to accurately capture historical details and the results are nothing short of stunning.
However, it should also be noted that the actual Gucci family, who have objected to the film being made, have not owned the fashion house since 1993.
Fittingly, the soundtrack for the latest trailer is none other than Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) and we even get a glimpse of Gaga in her “hiring a hitman” look, complete with spiky short hair and biker jacket. Suffice to say it is the very definition of *chef’s kiss.*
Reggiani ultimately served 16 years in prison for the crime of orchestrating the assassination of her ex.
As if this film wasn’t surrounded by enough hype, I also quickly did the math and calculated that between stars Gaga, Driver, Jared Leto, Al Pacino and Jeremy Irons, they have a collective 16 Academy Award nominations between them, with four wins.
House of Gucci is based on Sara Gay Forden’s book The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed and will be in Australian cinemas from December 26, 2021.
