Ghostbusters: Afterlife Trailer Drops and Does Paul Rudd Ever Age?

Ghostbusters: Afterlife

Over three decades ago, Dan Akroyd, Harold Ramis and Bill Murray starred in a very famous film about a trio of eccentric parapsychologists who started a ghost-catching business in New York City — Ghostbusters.

The film opened to critical acclaim and became a cultural phenomenon, known for its special effects and of course, that very famous theme song, and turned its cast into household names.

Now, a direct sequel has been announced along with an epic trailer and all-star cast, Ghostbusters: Afterlife.

The original film, which was released in 1984, was followed by a 1989 sequel, Ghostbusters II, and then in 2016, a spin-off, Ghostbusters, starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, and Chris Hemsworth was released to mixed reviews.

The new story arc is set in the present day and builds on the events of the first two films, with a new generation of busters.

Starring Carrie Coon (The Sinner), Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things) and McKenna Grace (Gifted); the trio play Mother, Callie (Coon) and children, Trevor (Wolfhard) and Phoebe (Grace).

The story follows the family as they move to Oklahoma, into a property once owned by Callie’s father, she does have a direct connection with the OG Ghostbusters. Oooh!

While we don’t know exactly who he is yet, we’re betting it’s Egon Spengler, who was originally played by Ramis and could be an ode to the late actor who passed away in 2014.

Trevor, Phoebe and their friends soon start to explore their new property, finding all sorts of Ghostbusting equipment, but because they have know idea what it is, they turn to their summer school teacher, Mr Gooberson, played by the never-ageing, Paul Rudd  (Living With Yourself).

This film looks to be a little darker than the others, which suits a modern audience.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife is set to premiere July 10, 2020.
