Briefly opened in Los Angeles in August, a near-exact replica of the guinea pig-themed cafe from Fleabag is making its way home to London, where the BBC show is set.
The quirky café backdropped some of the cult comedy’s more pivotal scenes, and now you too will be able to visit for Chatty Wednesday or a £12.55 cheese sandwich (London, eh?).
Located on the third floor of the Waterstones bookstore in Piccadilly, the cafe will display beloved memorabilia from the show, from framed pictures of Fleabag and Boo, to ‘A Woman Robbed’ — the thrice-stolen gold bustier sculpture.
Other Easter eggs hidden throughout the set include a Bible (though sadly, no Hot Priest), and a shrine to Barack Obama.
Though merely a set and not a functional cafe, the installation will no doubt attract crowds of fans if the LA opening is anything to go by.
This time though, Fleabag fanatics will be able to take home a souvenir (no, not a guinea pig). The cafe opening coincides with the release of Fleabag: The Scriptures, a new book that chronicles the show and includes the entire collection of scripts, never-seen stage directions, and new writing from Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the series’ star and creator.
The cafe is open until Sunday, November 17. Entry is free.
Though the series wrapped up for good after a successful second series, the hype following the show has far from dissipated. At the 2019 Emmy Awards, Fleabag’s second series received 11 Primetime Emmy Award nominations and won six, including those for Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Lead Actress, and Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series.
