Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Cate Blanchett, Himesh Patel, Jonah Hill, Timothee Chalamet, Meryl Streep, Ariana Grande, Kid Cudi, Matthew Perry and Tomer Sisley all walk into a room.
While it sounds like we’re at the Oscars, it’s actually the cast of new Netflix film, Don’t Look Up.
Not since 2001’s Ocean’s Eleven starring Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, George Clooney and Julia Roberts, have we seen such an epic line up of stars in one movie.
Adam McKay (producer of The Other Guys) will not only direct but will write and co-produce alongside Kevin Messick (producer of Vice).
According to Deadline, who reported the news first, the film centres around Lawrence, who plays a low-level astronomer who discovers — alongside her partner — that a giant asteroid is heading toward Earth and will destroy it. The scientists embark on a media tour around the country warning the population about its inevitable death, but people aren’t so quick to believe them (or care).
“I don’t think it’s a Step Brothers-type of comedy. I would compare it more to somewhere between the Mike Judge stuff and Wag the Dog. A hard funny satire is what we’re going for,” McKay said of the film in a statement.
Even though it is a Netflix production, the draw-card cast could actually spell out an unprecedented move for the streaming service, which sees it being released in cinemas.
Production has not yet started on the film, so it’s not expected to hit cinemas until late 2021 or early 2022.
