The Audio Porn App Turning You On and Improving Intimacy

Isolation sparked a rise in sex toy sales, dating app downloads, and apparently, an increased use of audio porn to help those stuck at home find pleasure and intimacy.

Audio porn app, Dipsea, has seen an 84% subscriber increase since the world was sent home in March, 2020, according to Forbes.

“Stories are so important in this time of social isolation,” co-founder Gina Gutierrez told the publication. “They transport us, nurture our imaginations, and remind us of the possibilities out there waiting for us. We’re not meeting any attractive strangers on the subway platform right now, but in a Dipsea story we can be.”

But what actually is the phenomena of audio porn, and why is Dipsea leading the charge?

What is Dipsea

Dipsea, founded in 2018, is a female-founded startup out of San Fransico, California. Co-founders Gina Gutierrez and Faye Keegan ideated and brought to fruition a subscription-based app of original and erotic short stories that “spark your imagination, get you in the mood, and immerse you in story”.

Each story on the platform — and there are hundreds — is considered and created by a diverse group of writers and producers to be:

Relatable

“We want people to hear themselves in our stories. We ground fantasy in reality and show all kinds of preferences and interests because we believe the most exciting, immersive stories are the ones that you can relate to.”

Feminist

“People in our stories are empowered in their sexual, social, and romantic experiences. Sex is communicative and pleasure doesn’t sound performed. These choices seem simple, but they’re radical, and have implications far beyond the bedroom!”

Celebratory

“We celebrate healthy sexuality because it’s joyful and good for you. Dipsea sex is safe, positive, and full of healthy boundary setting and enthusiastic consent. Shame and judgment don’t get a seat at the table.”

The Dipsea membership

Dipsea is available on a temporary free trial, however, a membership grants unlimited access to hundreds of audio stories, with three new tales added every week. The stories are recorded by actors and with background noise to transport the listener into the very scene they’re dropping in on.

Stories, be them straight, queer, and over a range of themes, run from five to 20 minutes and scale from flirtatious to downright explicit. Some are designed for solo listening, while others are ideated for couples or groups.

There are even guided medications held by experts in sex, dating and wellness to help you learn more about yourself and improve your self-care routine to include sexual wellness.

A membership with Dipsea costs USD $8.99 a month or USD $47.99 for a year.

Dipsea also has a blog on site called The Skinny Dip, in which a team of writers explore common and lesser-explored themes around sex and sexuality. From a guide to edging in solo and partner play to a sexual bucket list, there’s no shortage of content to have one feeling hot and bothered.

“Did you grow up barely talking about sex at all? Yeah, us too. Welcome to the world’s biggest, least fun club. We’re making up for lost time by unpacking taboo, busting myths, discussing intimacy, and musing about sex in all its amazing mysteries,” the team reveals of its blog offering.
