Home to over 150 wineries and 80 cellar doors, not to mention boasting the world’s oldest continuously producing shiraz, grenache and cabernet sauvignon, among other wines, Barossa Valley in South Australia is easily among the world’s best wine regions.
And at just a cruisey, 50-minute drive from Adelaide, The Barossa, and it’s best known, makes for an easy day trip. Though, if you’re keen to get a better feel for it, maybe even joining a cycle tour, visiting its farmer’s markets or dining at one of its fine dining restaurants, you’re better off staying overnight.
Ahead, we share some of our favourite places to stay there. From a Provencal-style property with suites each featuring French doors that open onto the vineyards, to a restored historic farmhouse with a heated mineral pool, these are our picks for the best places to stay in The Barossa.

The Louise
At The Louise, stay in one of its 15 European-style villa suites, each with a high-ceilinged lounge space, as well as French doors that open to a rosemary-lined courtyard with outdoor seating. The property has two venues – the award-winning Appellation and the Contour bar and kitchen, which has a walk-in cellar.
Le Mas
Inspired by the restored farmhouses scattered throughout France, Le Mas reflects a contemporary Provencal style, while respecting the Australian land and its history. It can be found nestled between the Para River and vineyards on the valley floor and has a heated mineral pool set on its lush lawn. Rooms feature soft French hues to enhance the surrounding scenery, heated travertine floor bathrooms and either a Monaco or Toulouse stone bath.
Kingsford The Barossa
Built in 1856, Kingsford The Barossa was home to a wealthy 19th-century pastoralist. Recently re-opened after a two-year, multi-million dollar refurbishment, today, it’s a 16-suite retreat, nestled among riverbanks and rolling hills and surrounded by 91 hectares of untouched Australian landscape. The whole property can be booked for weddings, special celebrations or corporate events.
The Villas Barossa
Privacy is what to expect from The Villas Barossa, which has just two stand-alone villas on its vineyard property. Each villa has glass doors leading onto a deck with seating that overlooking the vineyards and Australian bush. The villas can be found in the village of Marananga, walking distance from several cellar doors and wine bars.
Rogasch Cottage
Rogasch Cottage is a two-bedroom, renovated cottage, originally built in the 1860s, and today, featuring a plunge pool and private cellar. Set on 3.6 hectares of vineyard, it’s only a five-minute stroll to town Tanunda’s coffee shops and restaurants. The cottage is joined to the owner’s family home, where guests are welcome to tour their micro-winery and sample their wines.
Brockenchack Vineyard Bed and Breakfast
A restored vineyard homestead from the 1880s, Brockenchack Vineyard Bed and Breakfast is a self-contained bed and breakfast with three suites total. The house has a shared kitchen, dining area and two lounge areas with wood-burning fireplaces. After dinner, curl up with a blanket on its wrap-veranda, admiring views of the vineyard, or soak in its private spa.
CABN CANVS Billie
Off-grid accommodation provider CABN has a handful of properties in The Barossa, with CANVS Billie one of them. The accommodation sleeps two, and features a deck with an outdoor bath and seating, as well as a convenient location across the road from a cellar door. The cabin comes with a kitchenette with a bar fridge, microwave and taster, and a bathroom complete with a shower and flushing toilet.
