These Are the Most Popular Baby Names in 2020

Referencing data from the US’s Social Security Administration, name trends in the last five years, and names searched on its website by millions of users, Names.org has been able to successfully predict baby name trends for each year with almost 100% accuracy.

Now, the site is revealing its predictions for the most popular baby names for the year.

Whether you’re looking for ideas, or want to avoid your kid having the same name as three others in their class, it’s a valuable resource for any new parent discussing names for their newborn.

Top 10 boy baby names in 2020

1. Liam

2. Noah

3. William

4. Oliver

5. Lucas

6. Benjamin

7. Elijah

8. James

9. Henry

10. Alexander

Sebastian is a name fast gaining popularity, although it falls short of the top 10 list in 2020. It’s predicted that Sebastian will make it onto the covested list in the years to come, though.

The names Mason, Ethan, Michael, and Daniel were also excluded for the top 10 this year, and it seems the names are declining in popularity.

Top 10 girl baby names in 2020

1. Emma

2. Olivia

3. Ava

4. Isabella

5. Charlotte

6. Sophia

7. Amelia

8. Mia

The names Luna, Camila, and Aria may not have made the top 10 this year, but since they’re all rising in popularity it’s predicted they’ll make it on the list in the next few years.

Once an incredibly popular choice, the name Ella has dropped from the top 10 and is on a steady decline.

Though they didn’t make the top 10, the data shows a rapid rise in less traditional names, too. Names.org calls these “wildcards”, and if the rate of increase is anything to go by, these names could well slot into the top 10 in the years to come.

For boys, the names Theodore, Leo, Hudson and Ezra are gaining popularity fast, while for girls, it’s Luna, Emelia, Isla, Willow and Everly.
