The Always Live initiative kicked off with Foo Fighters playing a sold-out show in Geelong to a crowd of 30,000 fans, and now more acts have been announced as part of the event, which was the brainchild of the late Michael Gudinski.

Australian music icons Nick Cave and Warren Ellis will perform two nights at Hanging Rock supported by Courtney Barnett; multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter and producer Tash Sultana will headline Ocean Sounds on Phillip Island along with Pierce Brothers, Kim Churchill and Kee’ahn and a new regional First Nations concert series called Hometown will see multi-platinum selling singer Isaiah Firebrace take the stage.

In addition to that, the Foos will return to our shore for two epic nights at AAMI Park in December, with the second show being added on Tuesday, December 6 due to huge demand and the quick exhaustion of the show’s presale allocation.

Always Live is the first – and largest – event of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere, and the only Australian Major Event dedicated to highlighting live contemporary music from home and abroad, spotlighting Victoria (Gudinksi’s home state) as the key cultural destination for audiences across the Asia-Pacific.

From big names to rising stars, arena-style shows to intimate performances on rooftops, in laneways and in small venues, the event will showcase Victoria’s unparalleled home-grown talent, the best acts from around the country and the most sought-after artists from across the globe.

“We have hit the ground running, with the scale and impact of our first show at GMHBA Stadium,” said Steve Smith, CEO of Always Live, in a statement. “Today’s announcements further points to what to expect from the wider Always Live program as we bring together an exceptional array of unique and one-off live music experiences that will take place right across our great state.”

The full Always Live program will be announced mid-year, but in the meantime — check out the dates and venues for the recently announced lineup below.
